Why Is My Amazon Listing Suppressed? (And How to Fix It)

·4 min read·Oranokai

The real reasons Amazon suppresses listings in 2026 — image rules, missing attributes, restricted keywords — and the exact steps to find and fix yours.

Your listing was live. Now it isn't showing up in search, the Buy Box looks wrong, or Seller Central has a warning icon next to it you didn't put there. That's suppression — and it's more common, and more fixable, than most sellers think.

This is a real, complete answer: what suppression actually means, every common cause, and how to check and fix it in Seller Central today.

Suppressed isn't the same as rejected or blocked

These three get used interchangeably by sellers, but Amazon treats them differently:

  • Rejected — your listing was never published at all. Amazon caught the problem before it went live.
  • Suppressed — your listing is live in Amazon's system, but it's been pulled from search results and category browsing. Customers can only find it via a direct link. It still exists; it's just invisible.
  • Blocked / deactivated — a more serious enforcement action, usually tied to a policy violation rather than a technical spec issue, and harder to reverse.

Suppression is the one that catches sellers off guard, because nothing obviously "broke." Sales just quietly stop.

The most common reasons listings get suppressed

1. Main image problems

This is the single most common trigger, and it's almost always fixable in minutes once you know what's wrong:

  • Background isn't pure white. Amazon's main-image rule is RGB (255, 255, 255) — not off-white, not cream, not a light grey that looks "basically white" on your monitor. Anything else can trigger suppression.
  • Below minimum resolution. Amazon requires at least 1000px on the longest side so the zoom feature works; 2000×2000px is the recommended target for real quality.
  • Product doesn't fill enough of the frame. Amazon's guidance is roughly 85% of the frame. A product shot too small or too zoomed-out reads as low-effort and can get flagged.
  • Text, logos, watermarks, or props on the main image. The main image is the product and only the product — no badges, no "Best Seller" graphics, no studio watermark left in a corner.

2. Missing or incomplete attributes

Every category has its own set of required attributes — material, age group, size, color, and others depending on what you're selling — and even one missing mandatory field can be enough to suppress the whole listing. This is the one sellers miss most often, because Amazon doesn't always make it obvious which specific field is the blocker.

3. Restricted or promotional keywords in the title

Amazon's title rules have gotten stricter, not looser. Phrases like "Best Seller," "#1 Product," "100% Guaranteed," "Free Shipping," or "FDA Approved" (unless you can actually substantiate it) are treated as promotional claims Amazon doesn't allow in titles — and titles are also now capped at 75 characters in most categories, with anything longer getting auto-trimmed.

4. Duplicate ASINs and catalog conflicts

If your listing looks like a duplicate of an existing ASIN — same product, same brand, conflicting details — Amazon's catalog system can suppress one or both versions until it's resolved.

How to check which listings are suppressed

  1. In Seller Central, go to Inventory → Manage All Inventory.
  2. Look for listings with a status flag or warning icon next to them — Amazon shows a specific reason when you click into the listing.
  3. Read the actual reason given, not just the fact that it's suppressed. "Image issue" and "missing attribute" require completely different fixes, and Seller Central usually tells you which one you're dealing with.
  4. Fix the specific field or image flagged, and resubmit — most image-based suppressions clear within a few hours to a couple of days once corrected.

The fast way to fix image-based suppression

If the reason is image-related — wrong background, low resolution, product not filling the frame — you don't need a reshoot. Two things help immediately:

Check the image first. Our free compliance checker scans your photo against Amazon's actual current image rules — background color, resolution, frame fill — and tells you exactly what's failing before you re-upload and wait to find out.

Fix or regenerate it without a new photoshoot. Oranokai's e-commerce catalog generator takes your existing product photo and produces a full compliant listing set — correct background, correct framing, right resolution — in minutes, not a re-shipped-to-studio delay.

The bottom line

Suppression almost always comes down to one of a small number of specific, checkable things: the main image, a missing attribute, a restricted word in your title, or a catalog conflict. Find the actual reason Amazon gives you, fix that specific thing, and most listings are back in search within a day or two — no guesswork required.

If you sell on more than one marketplace, the image rules aren't identical across platforms — see our Flipkart image requirements guide and Meesho catalog rejection guide for the differences.
